According to Microsoft in almost every case your data should not be affected. All of your programs, games, documents, and pictures should be fine.

Go to Control Panel, click on System and see if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.

To download Windows 10 now and not wait for a notice from Microsoft.
